Description:

Civil War period M1840 Saber with a 35 1/2 inch flat back double fuller blade, marked "SHEBLE & FISHER/PHILADa" on the reverse ricasso. The saber has a brass hilt, with a 2-branch guard, Phrygian helmet pommel and a wire wrapped leather grip. The saber has a regulation iron scabbard. The blade and pommel lack "U.S." markings or inspector marks.

Rating Definition:

Very good with fine blade. The blade has some minor spotting and dings on the blade. A deep aged patina is present on the hilt. There is a slight dent in the knuckleguard, and a gap of lost leather between the grip and pommel. Sheath is good, with traces of original blue and a textured brown patina overall.
