Description:

Philadelphia cutter Charles Hammond (later Charles Hammond & Son) received a Civil War contract for 1840 sabers circa 1862-1864. this saber has no U.S. inspection or property marks. The saber has a 35 5/8 inch double fuller blade, marked "C. HAMMOND" on the left ricasso. Brass hilt, with a 2-branch guard, Phrygian helmet pommel, a wire wrapped leather grip and iron scabbard.

Rating Definition:

Good. The blade has a frosted appearance, scattered pitting, and edge nicks. The brass hilt has a dark patina. Theres is a small crack in the knucklebow. The leather grip wrap has minimal wear. The scabbard has a deep plum patina with pitting.
