Description:

This is an exceptionally nice example of a Spencer carbine that was manufactured by the Spencer Repeating Rifle Company, Boston, Masschusetts during the Civil War and refurbished for the Indian Wars. This particular Spencer carbine is equipped with the Stabler cut-off. The top of the receiver is marked "SPENCER REPEATING/RIFLE CO. BOSTON, MASS./PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860" and the serial number is marked at the rear next to the hammer. There is an "I" single letter sub-inspectors mark on the saddle ring bar base at the rear. Blade front sight and folding ladder rear sight graduated to 800 yards. Blue barrel and casehardened remaining parts, saddle ring bar with ring mounted on the left side of the receiver and stock, and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with a single barrel band and straight grip stock with a sharp script "ESA" cartouche on the left wrist and carbine style buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Excellent as arsenal rebuilt. The barrel retains 97% arsenal blue finish with some wear on the muzzle and breech end sides, and a few minor scratches. The remaining parts retain 98% arsenal bright case colors with a few spots of gray on the right side of the receiver. The wood is also excellent with a few minor dings and handling marks. The markings are clear and as noted above the stock cartouche is sharp. Mechanically excellent.
