Description:

The top of the bolt is marked "BETHEL BURTON'S/PATENT". The left side of the receiver and barrel have British proofs along with the number "64" stamped on the barrel. Blade front and 3-leaf rear sights. The trigger guard and butt cap are brass with blue barrel and casehardened receiver. The number "3" is stamped on the bolt handle. Mounted on a checkered stock. In the 1880s Bethel Burton submitted a number of experimental rifles to the English War Office for evaluation and testing. The designs were never accepted by the British military. Further research on this pistol could provide some interesting results. This pistol is strikingly similar and undoubtedly related to the Model 1871 U.S. Ward-Buron rifle.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 90% original blue finish showing some minor thinning and some deep pitting on the left side of the muzzle. The casehardened receiver has silvered out to a dark gray patina with traces of original case colors remaining. There are a couple patches of minor pitting. The brass has an attractive aged patina. The stock is very fine with some minor handling marks. Overall the checkering is crisp. Mechanically excellent.
