This is a nice example of an original Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor rifle manufactured circa 1885. The casehardened low arch breechblock is stamped "US/MODEL/1873" and the lock plate has the eagle/shield and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD". The left rear of the barrel has "V/P/eagle head/P" proofs with "A" stamped on top. The action has a three click tumbler. The barrel bands are marked "U" and the buttplate tang is marked "US". The full length stock has a clear "SWP/1885" cartouche on the wrist and a circled script "P" behind the trigger guard. The rifle has a slotted cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Excellent as issued. The rifle retains 97% plus original blue finish with a few areas of minor spotting. The breechblock and tang retain 98% plus original case colors. The stock is also excellent with a few scattered minor pressure dents. The cartouche and "P" inspection marks are both crisp. Mechanically excellent.
