The 1863 lock plate has standard U.S./Colt markings and the bolster has the eagle/shield motif. The barrel is dated 1863 and the left rear has "V/P/eagle head proofs" and "FEM". Three-leaf rear sight, three "U" stamped barrel bands, "US" marked buttplate and two faint cartouches on the left stock flat. The underside of the stock ahead of the trigger guard is stamped "N. W.
