Also known as the "Express" rifle, this rifle was manufactured in 1888, the second year of production for the Large Frame Lightning. Colt only manufactured approximately 6,496 of this large frame variation. The top barrel flat is marked with the two line address/patent dates, the left rear flat is marked "38-56-255" and the Rampant Colt is marked on the left side of the receiver. The serial number is marked on the lower tang. Blade front and adjustable rear sporting sights, blue finish with casehardened hammer and buttplate, and mounted with a checkered walnut forearm and smooth straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.

Fine. The rifle retains 40% original blue finish with a smooth brown patina on the balance. The buttplate has a smooth mottled gray patina and shows some of the original casehardening pattern. The wood is very good showing extensive scattered dings and scratches overall, as well as some minor wear and bruising on the forearm checkering. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is fine.
