Colt Large Frame Lighting Rifle manufactured in 1894, the last year of production for this rifle. The rifle has a full-length octagon barrel and 10-shot magazine. The barrel has a dovetail mounted "Hunting" style front sight with colored bead and a sporting style rear sight. The forearm is checkered. The rifle has a blue barrel, magazine and receiver with casehardened hammer and crescent buttplate. The stock and forearm are straight grain oil finished walnut. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped with the two-line legend "COLTS PT.F.A. MFG.CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A./PATENTED MAY 29. SEPT 18.83. MAY 26.85. JUNE 15.85. FEB 22.87." ahead of the rear sight. The caliber "45-85-285" is stamped in large script numerals on the left side of the barrel below the rear sight. The Rampant Colt is stamped on the left side of the receiver. The serial number "6326" is stamped on the lower receiver tang behind the trigger guard.

Fine. The rifle retains 50% of the slightly faded original blue finish overall. The blue finish on the barrel and magazine is thin and has some high point and edge wear. The contact points on the upper and lower portions of the receiver have finish wear but considerable bright blue finish is present on the protected areas of the receiver. The hammer retains 70% of the color casehardened finish. The case colors on the crescent buttplate have faded to a gray-brown patina. The forearm is very good with sharp checkering and no cracks or repairs. The stock has a few minor handling marks but remains very good. This is a solid example of a large frame Colt Lightning Slide -Action Rifle from the last year of production.
