Description:

Manufactured in 1883. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line address, the left side has the very desirable "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" etched panel and the left side of the frame is marked with the three line, three patent dates. The upper left front of the trigger guard is marked "44 CF" and the bottom of the barrel is marked "44" just ahead of the cylinder pin. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap, with the assembly number "2929" on the loading gate. The revolver has the early oval ejector rod head and hammer with elongated checkering on the spur. This is one of the last Single Action Army Revolvers fitted with walnut grips before the introduction of the hard rubber eagle grips in 1882-83. All nickel finish with niter blue screws, blade front and frame notch rear sights. The accompanying factor letter verifies the caliber and finish, with the barrel length and grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 200 to Hartley & Graham, N.Y., N.Y. on June 14, 1883. There is another Colt Single Action Army etched panel revolver in this auction with the same configuration that was in the same shipment.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine. The revolver retains 80% plus original nickel finish with some flaking on the muzzle, some scattered speckled flaking, mainly on the cylinder and some wear on the upper portion of the back strap. Almost all of the original bright niter blue remains on 4 of the 7 screws. The grip is very fine with 95% original varnish remaining and showing some lower edge wear, a few minor dents on the bottom, a period repair on the right heel, with a few minor chips on the repaired area, and a few minor dents and chips in the varnish. The action needs work, the hammer does not hold a cock position. The etched panel is clear and the markings are crisp and clear. A fine example of the very desirable Colt etched panel "Frontier Six Shooter" Single Action Army Revolver.
