This is a spectacular example of a rare special order Winchester Model 70 Super Grade Rifle in 300 H&H Magnum caliber that was manufactured in April 1956. The rifle is a Class 2 special order rifle featuring a nicely figured French walnut Monte Carlo stock. The fancy stock checkering has a fishtail pattern on the pistol grip and has a French polish finish. Extra cost fancy checkering and optional wood finishes are rarely seen. The four groove, 26 inch no. 5 chrome-moly barrel has hook cut rifling and is hand lapped. The barrel is manufactured without sights and is without a rear sight barrel boss. The barrel also lacks a forearm screw. This is the only standard weight Super Grade Model 70 that this writer has ever seen without the forearm screw. The left side of the barrel has the standard Winchester legend followed by "-300 H&H MAGNUM-" and the two line Winchester trademark is stamped on the left side of the receiver. The Winchester factory proof is stamped on the left side of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The receiver is tapped for sight/scope mounting. The hinged floorplate is stamped "-SUPER GRADE-". The jewelled bolt with jewelled extractor is numbered to the gun and retains the Winchester factory bolt tag numbered to the gun. The bolt handle is matte blue with a hollow bolt knob. The follower is also jewelled. The stock has quick release sling swivels, ebony forend tip, blue finished steel grip cap, cheekpiece and a checkered steel buttplate. The rifle comes with the shipping box and original factory box. The correct yellow factory box end label is numbered to the gun and confirms the grade, stock type and caliber and is ink stamped "SPECIAL" (see image). The original hanging tag and instructions and R.L. Wilson's book WINCHESTER: AN AMERICAN LEGEND are also included with the rifle. A delicate combination of seldom ordered special features have resulted in an aesthetically balance sporting rifle. The subtle, but elegant refinements on this Model 70 are sure to please even the most descriminating Winchester Collector. Included with the rifle is a rare 1950's Winchester counter top standee advertisment featuring a Super Grade Model 70 rifle. The advertisement has been professionally framed, frame measures 34 1/2"x29 1/4".

Near new in original box. The rifle retains 99% plus of the original blue finish with a few minor scratches on the barrel near the muzzle. The stock is near new with only the slightest handling marks. The box is very fine. Truly an authentic one of a kind Super Grade Model 70 Rifle for the advanced Winchester collector. Advertisement is excellent showing some minor edge wear with vivid and bright colors.
