Description:

This is a fine example of a early "two-digit" serial number (43) Ludwig Loewe & Co., Model 1893 Borchardt pistol that includes a custom (period) combination shoulder stock/holster. This specific pistol (serial number 43) is one of the lowest numbers we have offered. The chamber area of the barrel extension is marked in three lines "WAFFENFABRIK/LOEWE/BERLIN" and the right side of the receiver is marked "SYSTEM BORCHARDT PATENT.". The top of the toggle link is stamped "N.R.P./No. 75837". The pistol serial number "43" is visible on the stock lug, the bottom of the pistol grip, the left side of the trigger, the rear underside of the barrel, and the wooden base of the magazine. The left side of the barrel has the standard "Crown over B, U and G" proofs, while the left front edge of the barrel extension, the left side of the breechblock and toggle assembly have the standard Crown over the "B and U" acceptance proofs. As noted this pistol is accompanied by the original matching serial numbered (43) magazine and a custom, period manufactured, combination wooden shoulder stock/holster that is unlike the factory stocks in all aspects.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 70% plus of the original blue finish overall. The top of the breech block, and toggle shows signs of blue loss from actual use and firing, with the sides of the barrel extension showing signs of light battering. The grips are fine with much of the original varnish around the border of the grips with good distinct checkering on both sides, mixed with a few minor handling marks. The top of the toggle lock, latch on the right side of the frame is broken off. The custom stock is functional and will work on the pistol, but is crudely period made. Still a unique and desirable example of a really scarce, very early serial numbered Borchardt pistol.
