Description:

This is an example of a scarce, late 1930 commercial Broomhandle Mauser pistol that was has the "A.F. Stoeger Inc. New York, Sole U.S. Agents" retailer marked barrel. The A.F. Stoeger Inc company was one of the premier importers of all German firearms in the 1920s and 1930s taking over from the VL&D company. Although they were probably the largest importer of these weapons, very few were actually marked with the company name. These late 1930 models are easily identified by the reinforced chamber, high polished finish and lack of numbering of all the exposed parts. The top of the barrel is marked: "A.F. Stoeger, Inc., New York, Sole U.S. Agents", with the chamber area marked with the standard three line, Mauser factory markings, with with a single Crown/U proof on the left side and rear section of the breech bolt. The right side rear frame panel is marked: "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER / OBERNDORF A. NECKAR / D.R.P.U.A.P." with the Mauser Banner logo on the left side. It has the standard inverted "V" fixed front sight and adjustable rear sight graduated from 50-1000 meters. The late style walnut grips with 12 grooves on each side and has the lanyard loop stud on the bottom of the butt, but is missing the actual lanyard loop.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 95% of the original Mauser blue finish remaining with edge and high spot wear, with some actual blue loss on the front frame rails, muzzle area and rear grip strap. The grips are also excellent with with nice sharp distinct grooves on each sides, with 85% of their original varnish finish. A unique example of a A.F. Stoeger marked 1930 Broomhandle Mauser pistol. With so few examples available for inspection, we cannot authenticate the Stoeger marking.
