This is a beautiful example of a scarce and desirable later production Walther PP pistol in the very desirable 22LR that has been fitted with a set of the special order extended length checkered walnut Walther grips, that include the two special order magazines, that also have the matching special order extended walnut finger grip base plate. The extended grips were a special order item that enabled the owner to use these pistol as both a standard belt model and for informal target shooting. The serial number range of this Walther PP pistol falls right in line with other Walther PPs also produced in 22 LR as shown on pages 72-75, Volume I, of the excellent book on Walther PP and PPK pistols by James Rankin, with one example shown having the same exact style of grips as this specific pistol. These 22LR pistols were manufactured throughout production for both the PP and PPK models and are always considered highly desirable as they are chambered in the common easy to obtain 22LR caliber. Any of these extended grip Walther pistols are considered very rare as they were manufactured only on special order directly from the Walther factory. This pistol has the standard fixed sights, with the left side of the slide marked with the Walther Banner followed by "Waffenfabrik Walther, Zella-Mehlis (Thur)/ Walther's Patent Cal.22" followed by "Mod PP". The right side of the slide, chamber area and front end of the barrel are correctly stamped with the "Crown/N" Commercial proofs. It has a matching partial serial number (525) hand scratched on the inside the slide. This beautiful pistol is complete with the original matching numbered Walther brown woodgrain shipping box, the small wooden bullet block inside that has three 22LR cartridges marked with a single "R" on the base of the cartridge, and the original small Walther tin cleaning box, that contains the yellow Walther marked cleaning cloth, the horse-hair brush and small glass oil bottle. Also included with this outstanding pistol is the original metal cleaning rod and the very desirable original 1937 dated instruction manual.

Excellent with 99% of the bright original high polished blue finish overall with just a hint of minor edge wear on the front edge of the edge of the slide from sitting in the box. The walnut grips are excellent with nice sharp original distinct checkering on both sides, with just one minor handling mark on the lower right side. The box is very good plus with a good color overall and 85% of the green & white Walther label intact on the end of the box. The edges and corners of the lid show wear with a couple of the corners having cracked and pulled-apart. All the accessories and spare magazine are excellent. Just a beautiful example of a super rare special order extended grip pre-war Walther PP pistol with accessories.
