Description:

This is a very scarce Luger accessory from the WWI period, an original wooden storage and carry chest for the LP08 Artillery Luger pistol snail drum magazines. The chest measures 17 inches wide, 9 inches high and 6 1/2 inches deep. The interior is compartmentalized to hold five snail drum (Trommel) magazines securely along with a loading tool and boxes of ammunition. The chest has dovetailed construction with green/gray paint. There is a large stenciled "P" in fading white paint on the front and a faint but visible ink stamping inside the lid. The lid is hinged to open toward the back and has two hinged clasps with swinging hooks to secure. There are metal carry handles mounted on each end of the chest. All of the hardware is original.

Rating Definition:

Very good with half of the original paint, having scattered scratches, insect holes and dings. The exposed metal hardware has some oxidation overall. The hinges and handles are all intact. The interior components are excellent for the age. There is an old, stable, eight inch stress crack on the bottom and some scattered areas of tiny worm holes. Overall well above average, especially for the rarity of this accessory.
