Description:

This is an excellent example of a early WWII Mauser Banner Police Luger pistol rig with the "Eagle/L" Police proof, and early Nazi "Eagle/N" Commercial proofs, as implemented in 1940. The top of the chamber area is stamped "1940" for the year of manufacture with the large Mauser/Banner logo on the front toggle. The standard "Eagle/L" Police stamp is located on the right side of the receiver, with the "Eagle/N" proofmarks stamped on the left side of the receiver and the breechblock. The full serial number "4569x" is stamped on the front of the frame, with (4569) stamped and the left side of the barrel extension, but not the underside of the barrel, with the last two digits of the serial number (69) stamped on the various small parts. The left side of the barrel has an unusual "Eagle/Su40" proof indicating that it was Simson/Ulbright contract barrel, as used by the Mauser factory in 1940. The pistol has a salt blue finish and checkered walnut grips. This desirable Police Luger rig is complete with two professionally renumbered to match, "fxo/Eagle /37" proof magazines on both aluminum bases; "4569x and 4569x". It is complete with black leather Police holster marked on the back side "OTTO SINDEL/BERLIN/1940" over a light Police Eagle proofmark.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% of the original blue finish overall showing wear on the edges and high spots overall. The grips are very fine with nice checkering on both sides with a small age/stress crack starting on the back side of each grip, but not showing on the front. The holster is fine as restored with a nice black leather appearance overall with clear sharp markings and tight stitching. At one point the holster was converted to a post-war belt-hanger model which has been removed and the holes professionally plugged/glued with two original WWII style double belt loops resewn on in the original locations. The repair and new belt loops match very well. A solid representative example of an early WWII Police Luger rig.
