Colt Service Model Ace manufactured in 1942. The pistol has the pre-war gas-blue finish used thru serial number 3836 and is fitted with full checkered walnut grips. The slide has the standard Stevens adjustable target rear sight and serrated ramp front sight. The mainspring housing correctly, is not fitted with a Lanyard loop. The 10-shot, flat base, magazine has a full blue finish. Although the pistol was manufactured during 1942 when nearly all Service Ace production was for military contracts, the pistol has no Ordnance final inspection or sub-inspection marks. The top of the frame is stamped with the Colt "S" commercial production mark behind the disconnector hole. The right side of the frame is stamped with the serial number, "SM 3637". The left front trigger guard bow is stamped with a "4" assembler's mark above the Colt "Triangle/VP" proofmark. The serial number "36/67" is stamped on the rear of the slide beneath the firing pin stop. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped: COLT SERVICE/MODEL ACE .22 LONG/RIFLE with "ACE" surrounded by a diamond. The left side of the slide is roll stamped with the two-line, elongated, Colt Hartford address above thee patent numbers. The Rampant Colt trademark is stamped behind the legend. The magazine floor plate is stamped: "COLT/.22 ACE L.R./SERVICE MODEL" in three lines. Commercial production Service Model Ace pistols manufactured after 1941 are rare.

Excellent. The pistol is in excellent original condition and retains 97% plus of the original commercial blue finish. Wear is limited to several scratches on the left side of the slide underneath and below the slide stop, some minor scratches and handling marks below the grip strap and a small spot of surface rust on the bottom of the trigger guard. All of the markings are crisp. The left replacement walnut grip is fair, the right is in excellent condition. This is an excellent example of one of the very few Colt Service Model Ace pistols manufactured for commercial sale during WWII.
