Description:

This fine representative example of an early Colt Model 1911A1 pistol as inspected by Major Charles Reed, who inspected only about 6,000 M1911A1 pistol in total in 1940. The left side of the frame is marked with the scarce early "CSR." inspection mark of Major Charles S. Reed when he inspected 1911A1's during the period from August 1938 to Dec 1940, with a single "P" proof below the magazine catch. The right side is correctly marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY/No. 718210" with "M1911A1 U.S. ARMY" in front of the slide stop pin hole. The slide has the standard Colt two-line, two block patent and address markings on the left side with a "P" proof on top, with no model markings on the right side of the slide. The matching serial number "718/210" stamped under the firing pin stop. It has a all blue Colt barrel marked "COLT 45 AUTO" on the lower left side with a "P" on the lug. The pistol has the standard early checkered parts such as the main spring housing, thumb safety, slide stop lever along with the wide spur checkered hammer. It is fitted with a set of correct early WWII all checkered walnut grips and is complete with one two-tone unmarked magazine.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as semi-professionally refurbished with 75% of the blue finish remaining overall, with wear on the edges and high spots with thinning on the front grip strap. The frame markings are clear and distinct. The edges and corners are still sharp overall. The grips are excellent with fine checkering on both sides with a nice medium brown color overall. A solid representative example of an early WWII Colt Model 1911A1 pistol.
