Description:

Best known for their production of detonators for the military and explosive bolts and rescue devices for the aerospace industry, Hi-Shear attempted to branch out into the arms industry by recruiting Homer Koon of Omega Arms to design a rifle for them. The resulting arm, the Omega III, was a beautiful arm with a curiously short lifespan; shortly after production was initiated, the firm shut down the line and sent agents to buy back the rifles that already left, destroying all that were returned as well as the unshipped stock. Research turns up much speculation but no confirmed reason for this buy back. Manufactured without sights. Octagon shaped receiver with jeweled and fluted bolt, internal rotary magazine, factory drilled and tapped on top of the receiver for mounting, marked "OMEGA III/BY HI-SHEAR CORP. TORRANCE-CAL." on the left side. Mounted with a very nicely figured smooth forearm with contrasting forend and pistol grip stock with a relief engraved grip cap, cheekpiece, vented Omega III recoil pad and sling swivel studs. Less than 100 rifles are believed to have made it out the door before the recall was initiated, with only 10 to 25 estimated to still be in circulation. A mysterious and beautiful rifle, whose mystery is only exceeded by its beauty, which would make a fine addition to any collection of American sporting arms. The rifle is complete with the original box numbered to the gun, extra forearm, Conetrol mounts and papers.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The rifle retains virtually all of the original blue finish and shows only the slightest handling/storage marks. The wood is excellent with some light scratches and a minor natural flaw on the upper left side of the forearm. The extra forearm is excellent. The box is very good.
