Manufactered from 1858 to 1864 with total production of about 1,500 with 1,200 having the sliding knife blade such as this example. This particular derringer has the later production rounded or spear point blade found on only 400 of these derringers. The frame has a scroll engraving and is marked "Wm W. MARSTON/PATENTED/MAY 26, 1857/NEW YORK CITY" and matching serial number marked on the left rear of the barrel and on the frame under the grip. Fitted with smooth grips.

Good. The barrels and knife have a smooth gray patina with extensive minor pitting overall. The brass frame has an attractive patina with a clear engraving. The revarnished grips are fair with some minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
