Manufactured in 1863. The top of the barrel is marked "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA" , "COLTS/PATENT" on the left side of the frame and "36 CAL" on the left trigger guard shoulder. One of the cylinder flutes is marked with the 1850 patent date. The complete matching serial number is on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and backstrap, and the rear of the cylinder and arbor pin are marked with the partial serial number "2355". The wedge is mis-matched. Fitted with a smooth varnished one-piece walnut grip. Complete in a walnut case with maroon velvet lining, a brown lacquer powder flask, iron Colt bullet mold, Eley Bros 250 count cap tin (empty), and nipple wrench/screwdriver. The bottom of the case is period ink numbered to the gun and marked "Box 8" in yellow paint.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel and cylinder retain 80% original blue finish with loss due to flaking on the barrel. The balance has a smooth brown and gray patina. The frame and hammer retain 95% original bright case colors. The trigger guard and backstrap retain 30% original thin silver plating, mainly on the top of the backstrap and protected areas of the trigger guard. The balance has a pleasant aged patina. A crude "BOB" is scratched into the butt. The grip remains excellent with some mild lower edge wear and a few minor dings and scratches. The markings remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent. The case is good with a number of repairs and some cracks in the lid. The lining is badly faded, but very good with some heavy wear from the front sight and some moderate contact wear. A notch has been cut in one of the compartment walls to accommodate the flask spout. All of the accessories are very good.
