Manufactured in 1863 for the commercial market with a three screw frame cut for a shoulder stock. The top of the barrel has the one line New York address, the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT", and the cylinder is roll engraved with the Texas naval battle scene and marked "COLTS PATENT No" over "PATENTED SEPT 10th 1850". The matching number is marked on the bottom of the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number "5658" is marked on the wedge and cylinder pin, the cylinder is un-numbered. There is a small "H" on the front strap directly behind the trigger guard bow. Blade front and hammer notch rear sights, and fitted with a smooth varnished walnut grip.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The revolver retains 30% plus original blue finish mixed with smooth brown and gray patina. There is a small amount of pin prick type pitting on the lower right side of the frame. The cylinder scene is mostly visible. The frame also retains 30% original case colors, brightest in protected areas with a smooth gray patina on the balance. There are strong traces of age darkened original silver in the protected area of the trigger guard bow with a pleasant aged patina on the balance. The grip is also fine with much of the original varnish remaining showing some lower edge wear and scattered minor dents and dings. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
