Manufactured in 1880, this is a Second Model 1876 Lever Action rifle with the dust cover guide rail secured to the receiver by two screws. German silver blade front sight and folding leaf rear sight graduated 2-10 and marked "1876" at the top. The top barrel flat is marked "WINCHESTER'S-REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT/KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860." ahead of the rear sight and "CAL 45-60" at the breech. The bottom of the brass elevator has been stamped "45-60". The upper tang is marked "MODEL. 1876." and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a steel end cap and steel shotgun buttplate. The accompanying factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, 26 inch octagon barrel, plain trigger, shotgun butt, casehardened, and that it was received in and shipped out of the warehouse with 11 other Model 1876s to order number 23,233 on December 21, 1880.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel and magazine retain 60% plus original blue finish with loss occurring on the magazine tube, which has a mix of thin original blue finish and a smooth brown patina. The receiver retains 40% plus original fading case colors with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The hammer and lever retain strong amounts of muted original case colors. The wood is very good with some scattered minor dents and scratches. The markings remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
