Made in 1902. Brass bead accented blade front sight and adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight, with the two-line Marlin address and patent markings on the top barrel flat, "MARLIN SAFETY" on top of the receiver, and "MODEL/1897." on the upper tang. Smooth straight grip stock with a metal forend cap and curved steel buttplate.

Very fine as partially refinished (barrel assembly), showing minor handling marks overall and the start of a brown patina on the magazine tube. Bright case colors are present on the receiver, with some brown spotting on the right side, light handling marks, and some smooth fading around the edges. Stock is very fine, with minor dents and varnish loss. Mechanically excellent.
