Description:

Manufactured in 1896, this High Wall rifle was subsequently rebarreled with a 30 inch #4 octagon barrel with scope mounting bases in the front and rear sight dovetails. The top barrel flat is marked with the standard two line address ahead of the rear sight slot and "32-40" at the breech. The bottom of the barrel in front of the forearm is marked "4" and the lower tang is marked with the patent date behind the trigger and the serial number behind the lever. The barrel and receiver are blue and the lever, hammer and breechblock casehardened. Double set triggers and mounted with a smooth walnut Schnabel forearm with an ebony forend insert and straight grip stock with brass Swiss style buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good as refurbished. The barrel retains 15% streaked thin original blue finish mixed with a smooth brown patina. The refinished, polished receiver has a smooth gray patina. Much of the faded original case colors remain on the breechblock and hammer, while the lever has a smooth gray patina. The buttplate has an aged patina. The refinished buttstock has a large splintering crack on the toe and a couple of minor cracks in the same area. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
