The included Winchester letter confirms the rifle configuration, caliber, #1 octagon barrel, barrel length and plain trigger. The rifle was received in the warehouse on February 22, 1897 and shipped on order number 5671 on March 23, 1897. Blade front sight and buckhorn rear sight on a barrel marked with the two line address ahead of the rear sight and "22 LONG" at the breech. Blue barrel with remaining metal surfaces casehardened. Smooth Schnabel forearm with ebony insert and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.

Very fine. The barrel retains 80% original blue finish thinning to a brown patina. The remaining metal surfaces retain 70% original vivid case colors. Minor spotting is present. The wood is also very fine with some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
