Description:

Manufactured at an unknown date. Measuring 37 3/4 inches long, with a brass reinforced hardwood body, equipped with an iron foot stirrup, a 27 1/4 inch wide steel prod with a heavy sinew bowstring, reinforced at the center with additional sinew. A brass track is installed for the arrow, with a brass firing hook controlled by a triple-set trigger arrangement (a pair of cocking triggers, one on top and one inside the trigger guard, and a single firing trigger) and an adjustable front sight. A pair of wheels are integrated into the firing assembly, likely for a cocking-assistance device, and the underside of the body has a combination hand rest and stand, which has an inlaid ivory panel marked "J.B. TURPIN". Turpin has not been identified. The buttstock is straight and tapered, with a brass hand rest trigger guard and an iron and brass buttcap.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall, with some minor staining and cracking around the firing mechanism and prod, scattered dents and mild scratches. Additional cracking is present around the trigger group, with some reinforcing nails added. A fine aged patina is showing on the brass, with a few replaced screws. The prod has not been pulled for safety reasons, but the trigger assembly and hook both are otherwise in good order.
