This high quality matching pair of pepperbox pistols feature a German silver plated frame, casehardened 6 barrel cluster and hammer, blue trigger guard and niter blue hammer safety and trigger. The frame is engraved with floral scroll designs with a matte background. The left side is engraved "CHARLES JONES/26 ST JAMES'S STREET/LONDON" and "PISTOL MAKER/TO H.R.H./PRINCE ALBERT". On the right side. The floral scroll engraving extends to the top of the hammer, trigger guard and back strap. Also on the back strap is a royal crest consisting of a crown over a five point star in a round banner. The heel of the back strap is marked with the serial number "223". There are post 1813, Birmingham "Crossed Scepter/BPC" and "Crossed Scepter/V" proofmarks alternating on each flute of the breech end of the barrel. Each chamber is also numbered; 1 thru 6. There is a locking device on the lower left side of the frame patented by Jones which is activated when the trigger is pulled that locks the barrel cluster into place when firing. Fitted with smooth two piece walnut grips with engraved screw head and escutcheon. The pair come in an English style wooden case with brass plaque and brass corner protectors on the lid. The brass plaque is engraved with the same crest as on the back strap of the pistols. The case has brass reinforced corners and blue lined partitioned interior. There is a Charles Jones label affixed to the inside of the lid and nine compartments, one with a lid having an ivory pull. In the case is an unopened tin of 250 F. Joyce & Co. London percussion caps, a small lacquer powder flask, an oiler, several round lead bullets, a wooden handled seater, a wooden handled nipple wrench and a single cavity scissors bullet mold.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine. The frame remains bright with some mild frosting. The barrel cluster shows flashes of original case colors mixed with gray patina. There is some scattered pitting on the barrel cluster. The hammer retains 70% original case colors. Most of the dulling niter blue finish remains on the hammer safety with a smooth brown patina on the balance. The trigger shows strong traces of original bright niter blue in protected areas with a smooth mottled brown patina on the balance. The grips are very fine with 95% original varnish remaining showing a few minor dents and handling marks. The engraving and markings are crisp and clear. The action is fine. The case is also very fine. There is a small amount of contact wear on the lining. The accessories are all very fine or better.
