Description:

The revolver features the distinctive longspur hammer, a 5-shot cylinder and rifled barrel with the loading lever attached to the left side. The barrel is secured to the frame by a large butterfly nut. The left side plate marked is "WEBLEY'S PATENT" and British "Crown/V" and "Crown/GP" proofs alternate on the cylinder between the chambers. The sides of the frame and the back strap feature a simple double line border with large loops at the top and bottom of the back strap. Fitted with checkered grips. The hardwood case is partitioned and lined with green felt. The inside of the lid has a paper John Blanch & Son of London label. The case contains the following accessories: an Eley's cap tin with percussion caps, a C&J.W. Hawksley oiler, a Dixon & Sons plain bag shaped powder flask, an iron wad cutter stamped with the number "15," a nipple wrench, a flat headed screwdriver, a two conical cavity bullet mold marked with the number "4662" and a cleaning rod. The well-designed Model 1853 Longspur percussion revolver was the equivalent of the Colt Paterson in history of Webley revolvers. It was fully the equal of the contemporary Colt Model 1848 Dragoon or Model 1851 Navy revolvers in quality and serviceability.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The revolver has a mottled gray patina with minor pitting. The grips are very good with a hairline crack (left panel at the top) and some scattered minor blemishes in the overall crisp checkering and are undersized at the butt. Overall the accessories are fine with the bullet mold having a number of dings and the powder flask having some small dents. The exterior of the case is refinished with a number of handling marks and high spot wear on the lining.
