This is a beautiful matching pair of percussion pistols manufactured circa 1840s with Damascus barrels and carved stocks. The barrel has an attractive Damascus pattern and the top flat is gold inlaid "LIDLICH POZNANIU" and has two gold inlaid bands around the muzzle and breech ends. The top of the breech plug is engraved with a floral scroll design and it is made with two bolsters. The engraving design is also found on the lock, side plate, hammer side, top of the frame, trigger guard, front finial and butt cap. In addition the lock has an oval panel with a stand of flags/arms with a gold inlaid border and the left side plate also has a gold inlaid bordered oval with a stand of flags/arms. The top of the frame is fitted with a elevation adjustable notched blade sight and has the gold inlaid number "1" & "2" respectively behind the sight. The upper tang has a standing soldier in armor in a gold inlaid bordered oval panel. The trigger guard has a finger spur and decorative front finial, the hammer head is in a dogs head motif, adjustable trigger and mounted on a one-piece half stock with floral vine leaf carved grip area and a dogs head on the forend. The pistols appear to have been finished bright. The two come in a handmade custom wooden case with a polished recessed handle on the lid, a brass plaque on the inside of the lid, red velvet lining and a large decorative brass key.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel has a bright appearance and nearly all of the fine Damascus pattern remaining. A small amount of gold inlay is absent on the muzzle and there is a minor dent on the muzzle as well. All of the remaining gold inlay remains. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth dove gray patina. The stock is excellent with a few minor pressure dents and handling marks. The hammer has the top half broken off and the percussion nipple is flattened. The carving and engraving remains sharp. The custom case is fine with some minor contact wear on the lining.
