Description:

This is an example of a custom assembled DWM model 1904 Style German Navy contract Luger pistol. Original 1904 Navy Lugers (this is not one of these!) were actually ordered in Dec. 1904, prior to any Luger pistol being adopted by the German Navy, as they were intended to be replacements for the old Reichs revolver and the German Navy High Command wanted replacements ordered immediately. It is estimated that originally the German Navy ordered 2,000 pistols, with only a very few surviving examples known to date. Those that are encountered generally fall into the third serial number block, between "144-1148" with only "21" original surviving examples known today in the world! Obviously original 1904 Navy Lugers are an extremely rare piece and are never found in any Luger collection. This recreated example has the 1904 Navy style one-piece spring toggle lock mechanism on the right side, standard Navy proofs and the distinctive 15 cm "Fat Barrel" configuration which was quickly dropped from production, the flat double frame spring, and the later two-position Navy type rear sight. It has the standard blank chamber area, "DWM" marked toggle, standard extractor markings with the polished lower safety area with the upper area having the milled, "GESICHERT" markings. The back strap is stamped "W.W./127", indicating it was issued out of the Imperial Naval dock yard at Wilhelmshaven. It is complete with a later production Navy magazine that has the nickel plated magazine body with the correct wooden base with the correct concentric rings on the sides. The base is restamped with the "Crown/M" proof over "574". As noted original 1904 style Navy Lugers are extremely rare as all were destroyed or at least reworked after WWI to comply with the Versailles Treaty.

Rating Definition:

Fine as custom fabricated and assembled to resemble an original 1904 Navy Luger pistol, with most of its current blue finish overall. The markings are clear and distinct. It has the correct style larger 15 cm, 6 inch, Navy style barrel with the restamped Navy proofs on the barrel extension and barrel. The grips are very good with nice distinct checkering on both sides.
