Description:

This is a very early and very rare 1935 dated S/42 code Mauser "Navy" contract Luger pistol with an original German Navy "Eagle/M" marked leather holster. The "G" date was the secret code for the year 1935 and was the second full year of German rearmament. During this year Mauser manufactured approximately 20,000 Lugers in total with only 700 being procured for the German Navy. This example is correctly marked on the front grip strap with Navy property mark; "O.2565", which indicated this Luger was issued to the Baltic Sea Fleet. The Navy marked Lugers were all in the d, e and f block of serial numbers. The chamber area is marked with the letter "G" and the front toggle is marked "S/42". The right side of the barrel extension is marked with two "Eagle/63" proofmarks next to a droop winged eagle firing proof. It is numbered in the military manner with the full serial number on the major components, with this example having all matching numbers to include the magazine. It is fitted with the original matching, nickel plated magazine, with an aluminum base that is marked: "5446/e/Eagle 63", but no Navy property mark. This scarce Navy Luger is complete with an equally rare, very early black leather Navy marked holster. The backside is marked: "MORDHORS/KIEL/SUTTLER" over an "Eagle/M" proof mark.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 80% of the slightly faded original blue finish overall with wear on the edges and high spots along with thinning and minor oxidation of the blue on the grip straps. The various small parts retain 50% of their straw colors. The walnut grips are also fine with nice distinct checkering on both sides with some minor nicks on the checkering on the right grip. The holster is fine overall with a nice even dark black color overall, tight stitching, minor handling marks on the front of the holster, some heavier scuffing on the magazine pouch and clear distinct markings on the back. This scarce Luger has all matching numbers to include the one magazine.
