Description:

This is an example of a DWM Model 1914 Commercial Luger with the desirable "R G 160" marked frame. These RG marked Lugers were a private purchase weapon with the R.G. engraving performed outside the factory. The "R G" marking stands for the "Reichs-Gendarmerie", a militarized police unit that was stationed in the Alsace-Lorraine sector of Belgium. These markings are very similar to the military model shown on page 57-58 of Jan Stills book on Imperial Lugers. These 1914 Commercial models are easily identified by the serial number range, lack of chamber date and commercial proof marks. It has the standard "Crown/N" commercial proofs on the left side of the barrel extension, breechblock and underside of the barrel. It is correctly numbered in the commercial style with the five digit serial number "74186" stamped on the frame and underside of the barrel with the last two digits "86" on various small parts. It has one original commercial magazine with the nickel plated body with the unmarked wooden base. This Luger is complete with a correct "R G 16" marked brown leather commercial style holster that has no maker's mark. These early commercial holster are fairly unique because they have the standard takedown tool pouch with a separate slot for a cleaning rod next to the spare magazine pouch.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% of the faded original blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear. The small parts retain 40% of their faded straw colors. The grips are very fine overall with nice original checkering on both sides, showing light wear and minor handling marks. The holster is also very fine with a nice slightly darker brown color overall with nice tight stitching, and clear sharp "R.G." markings. The pistol has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above. An all original "R.G." marked 1914 Luger Rig.
