A very late WWII Japanese Type 97 sniper rifle as manufactured at the Nagoya factory. The side of the receiver is marked with the Nagoya Arsenal symbol over the Series "1" mark next to serial number "12665". The top of the receiver has the original Imperial Chrysanthemum (total intact) over the Kana characters for "9/7'Type" rifle. Equipped with an original WWII Japanese 2.5 X telescopic sight mounted on the to the left side of the receiver. The scope is marked on top "2.5 X 10/with a five pointed Star with a Circle in side/No.3878". The lower side of the mount is numbered "9304" and the back side of the mount is numbered "290". The left side of the receiver is fitted with the original scope base ( however it has a broken retainer spring, which can be replaced). Original tuned down sniper bolt numbered "076" on the underside, cocking knob numbered "421" with un-numbered firing pin and an original non-matching dust cover. Original WWII stock with cupped sheet metal buttplate and handguard. With an early Type 30 Nagoya marked hook bayonet, metal scabbard with original leather frog, original canvas scope case with shoulder straps, original leather sling and rare late war plastic push on muzzle cover.

Very good overall with half of the faded original blue finish on the metal parts, with browning on the floor plate, bolt assembly and dust cover (missing the front trigger guard screw). The stock and handguard are both good plus with minor handling marks and light scratches overall with clear proofmarks on the underside of the buttstock. Interestingly enough there is a small bullet hole on the right side of the forend that exited the left side and splintered the stock, which has been nicely glued back in place, so that it doesn't distract from the originality of this rifle. The scope is also very good plus with 90% of the black painted on finish which shows minor chips and nicks overall. You can see through the scope, however the optics are a little blurry. The scope case is also very good with intact stitching and shoulder strap with wear and scuffing on the edges and high points of the case.
