Manufactured circa 1908. John Dickson & Son was established in 1820 and to this day are Scotlands leading maker and supplier of fine sporting guns. The Dickson "Round Action" and MacNaughton "Bar In Wood" shotguns are famous around the world. Single brass bead sight on the solid concave rib marked "JOHN DICKSON & SON 21 FREDERICK STREET EDINBURGH". The breech end of the rib is engraved with a floral design with a matte background and the breech end of the barrels has a geometric design. The round body action is engraved with floral designs with a portrait of John Dickson sitting in a chair on the underside with gold inlaid "JOHN/DICKSON" in banners above and "1794/1880" in a banner below. Directly in front of the trigger guard is signed "PETER/CUSACK" in panels. The floral engraving extends to the break lever, trigger guard and forearm hardware. The water table is marked with two "crown/GP" proofs and the barrel flats are marked with various British proof marks as well as "12" in a diamond, "18-5" and "850 BAR". The matching serial number appears on the lower tang, water table, bottom of the right barrel and in inside of the forearm hardware. 3 inch chambers, choked improved cylinder/modified with ejectors. Double triggers, tang mounted safety with gold "SAFE" and mounted with a nicely figured deluxe multi-point checkered walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a leather recoil pad and gold initial oval. The bores are .728, cast off 1/8 inch, toe out 1/2 inch drop at the heel,1 7/8 inches, drop at the comb 1 3/8 inches and the length of pull is 15 3/8 inches. The shotgun is complete with a oak and leather takedown case with brass corner protectors, leather straps, leather handle, canvas cover and blue felt lining with a leather John Dickson label affixed to the inside of the lid. In the case are a two piece brass and ebony Purdey cleaning rod, John Dickson nickel oiler and four nickel snap caps.

Rating Definition:

Excellent showing 99% plus blue finish on the barrels, trigger guard and break lever. The action retains 30% bright case colors concentrated on the water table and protected area around the trigger guard. The wood is very good plus with some finish loss on the stock, light handling/storage marks and crisp checkering. The markings and engraving are crisp and clear. Mechanically fine. The case is very good and the accessories are excellent.
