Developed in the 1920s, the 240 Apex, also known as the 240 Holland & Holland Magnum and 240 Magnum Rimless, was intended for use against deer and light African game. Fitted with a raised blade front sight with a hinged cover and a 2-leaf rear sight set up for 50 and 200 yards, the top of the barrel is marked "HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET, LONDON.", the top of the chamber "HOLLAND'S/.240 "APEX"/RIMLESS/CARTRIDGE/"HYKRO" STEEL", and London/Nitro proofs on the left side of the chamber and receiver. The bolt has been turned down, checkered and proofed, with a set of single claw bases mounted on the left side for a Schmidt & Bender 4x36 scope with the rear ring engraved to match the receiver. Checkered fine walnut pistol grip stock, with sling eyes, a lightly scroll engraved casehardened grip cap, "JDM" inscription panel, and a solid recoil pad. With a canvas covered case, outfitted with leather corners and branded leather "E.M.W.R." tag on top, a gilt leather Holland & Holland tag on the green felt inner lining, sling, cleaning accoutrements and four boxes of Kynoch 240 Magnum Rimless cartridges.

Excellent, with 98% of the blue finish, showing the beginnings of a brown patina and mild handling marks overall. The bolt is numbered "4040", and the bolt catch "27". Stock is excellent, with a hairline crack visible on top of the wrist, light handling marks, and crisp checkering. The case shows a number of scuffs and stains, and some replacement of the lining. Optics are crisp with minimal wear on the tube. Mechanically excellent.
