Description:

Manufactured from 1914 to 1915 and is the double action triple lock pattern of the .455 Mark II type revolver. This example was converted to the more popular .45 Long Colt caliber before it was sold commercially in the United States. The revolver is listed by serial number in Neal and Jinks' book SMITH & WESSON 1857-1945 as part of a shipment of Mark II revolvers shipped to Shapleigh Hardware Co., St. Louis, MO on January 1, 1918 (page 203). According to the authors, these revolvers were likely converted to .45 LC before they were shipped. (They speculate that a St. Louis dealer would have had no market for the undesirable .455 Mark II cartridge chambered revolver.) The barrel has the two line address/patent dates marking on top and the right side of the frame has the S&W trademark. The barrel and cylinder are numbered to the gun. Lanyard ring mounted on the butt over the serial number and fitted with checkered S&W medallion grips.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 70% original blue finish with a smooth brown patina on the balance. The grips are excellent with overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
