Description:

This is a fine example of a desirable Johnson 1941 Semi-Automatic Rifle. Developed in the late 1930s, the 1941 competed against the M1 Garand for US military contracts, and found buyers with the Dutch and the USMC, which issued them to the "Marine Raider and Parachute Battalions" for the early Makin Island, Guadalcanal and Tulagi Island campaigns in the Pacific. These rifles employed several unique features such as the rotary magazine which allowed reloading at any time, an integral heat shield, and the takedown barrel which allowed them to be stowed in a parachute jump bag. Blade front and adjustable 1,000 meter rear sight, with ".30-06/41" marked on the barrel flange, five line model and five line patent markings on top of the receiver, and a five-pointed star over "CRANSTON/ARMS/CO." in a triangle on the right side below the rear sight. Fitted with a smooth two-piece pistol grip stock, a brown leather sling, and a Johnson spike bayonet, 11 7/8 inches overall with a 7 3/4 inch spike and a brown leather sheath. With Bruce Canfield's book JOHNSON RIFLES AND MACHINE GUNS; THE STORY OF MELVIN MAYNARD JOHNSON, JR. AND HIS GUNS and two reproduction 1941 Johnson manuals.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 90% plus original parkerized finish, showing some mild handling marks and areas of brown patina. The refinished, lightly sanded stock is very good, with a few minor pressure dents and scratches. The bayonet is very good, with some tears and lost stitching on the sheath. Mechanically excellent.
