Description:

This is a rare later Korean War manufacture Model 1918A2 Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) manufactured by the Royal Typewriter Company in 1954. These BARs are considered the original Squad Automatic Rifle (SAW) at the platoon and infantry squad level. They played a significant role on the battlefield during WWI, Korea and even into Vietnam. The top of the receiver is marked "BROWNING AUTOMATIC RIFLE,/U.S. CAL. 30 M1918A2/MANF'D BY ROYAL TYPEWRITER COMPANY INC./861714" followed by "A A 1316" indicating Augusta Arsenal rebuild. There is also a small partial DOD/P proof on top of the receiver in front of the rear sight. The front end of the barrel is marked "ROTW/Ordnance Bomb/3-54" indicating manufacture in Feb 1954. The left side of the barrel and receiver have a British Crown over "BNP" acceptance proof, with the barrel additionally proofed "30-06/.494/18 TONS/Square". It is fitted with the late style rear sight graduated from 200-1,500 yards, which is fully adjustable for windage and elevation. It is fitted with a walnut forend and a later black composite stock with the hinged buttplate. With one parkerized magazine and does not include a bipod. Very small import mark under the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the arsenal parkerized finish with minor spotting and dark spots on the sides of the receiver. The forend and buttstock are both excellent, showing minor handling marks and light scratches overall. A very nice example of a scarce Korean War manufactured M1918A2 rifle.
