Description:

This is an excellent example of a desirable Colt Model 1860 Army revolver manufactured in late 1869. The top of the barrel is marked with "---ADDRESS COL. SAML. COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-", the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT" and the left side of the trigger guard shoulder is marked "44 CAL". The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Texas Navy scene, "COLTS PATENT No. 324" and "ENGAGED 16 MAY 1843" on the forward edge. The complete matching serial number is stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, and back strap, "324" on the wedge and "8324" on the cylinder pin. The barrel, cylinder and back strap have the Colt high polish blue finish, and the loading lever, frame and hammer are color casehardened with the brass trigger guard silver-plated. Blade front and hammer notch rear sights, and fitted with a one-piece checkered ivory grip.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The revolver retains 30% original blue finish concentrated mainly on the rear portion of the cylinder, the top of the back strap and the protected areas of the barrel with a smooth blue/brown patina on the balance. The remaining metal surfaces retain 30% original case colors in the protected areas with a smooth brownish gray patina on the balance. The cylinder scene is clear and distinct. The percussion nipples are excellent. 20% of the original silver-plated finish on the trigger guard with an aged patina on the exposed brass. The grips are also very fine with some minor chips along the lower edge of the right side and some minor age cracks on the bottom. The grips have also shrunk from age and sit slightly lower than the edges of the back strap and trigger guard, however they are completely original. The markings are clear. The action is excellent. A very nice example of a early post-Civil War 1860 Percussion Colt pistol.
