Description:

This is an excellent example of a very early remanufactured Browning Model 1917 Medium Machine Gun. These beautiful weapons were actually developed in late WWI and really saw most of their service in China and during the early days of WWII. Originally these were another of John Browning's wonderfully designed MGs that were all based on the riveted receiver machine, with his true legacy the M2 50cal still going strong after over 85 years. This specific weapon is very unique in that it is one of the water cooled version that had the large water jacket around the barrel, similar to the Maxim MGs. This example was manufactured using an original parts set mated to a new manufactured "DLO" side plate, that has been photo etched with the original markings. The DLO company actually stands for Doug L. Oefinger, a class 2/3 manufacturer and dealer in Florida, who actually challenged the U.S. Government on the Constitutional merits of the Hughes Amendment to the 1986 Firearm Owner's Protection Act. Prior to that date he was well know in the industry as providing some of the best and most authentic machine guns and new receiver side plates and tubes. This is an early model that has his full named engraved on the side plate along with the photo-engraved/milled markings of "NO. 238334 U.S. INSP./BROWNING MACHINE GUN/U.S.CAL 30 MODEL 1917/MANFD BY N.E. WESTINGHOUSE CO.". This excellent example is complete with an original brass water jacket, a 1917 cradle with the pintle and T&E mechanism attached, a U.S 1917 tripod, a water can and one rubber water hose.

Rating Definition:

Very good as refurbished with half of a blue/brown finish overall with light handling marks mixed with general thinning of the finish overall. The cradle, tripod and water can all have 95% of a repainted green finish. The cradle, T&E mechanism, rear sight etc. all move freely and appear to work correctly. Certainly one of the better examples of a super rare U.S, Model 1917 Water Cooled medium machine gun. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), Class 3, Fully Automatic Weapon, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATF) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478. Before bidding on this weapon it is the sole responsibility and obligation of the bidder to understand and comply with all the State and Federal transfer laws and restrictions that apply in their current place of residence.
