This is an outstanding example of an original unaltered and near mint Model 1886 rifle with many special order features. Factory letter state this rifle was received in the factory on February 10, 1900 and was shipped February 19, 1900 to order number 3463 and confirms configuration and all features are totally original. This rifle has a special order 26 inch half octagon barrel, fitted with a nickel-silver blade front sight and graduated selective folding leaf rear sight. The top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight is marked "- MANUFACTUED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN.CONN. U.S.A.-" and "50 EX" at the breech. The upper tang is marked with the early style "-MODEL 1886-" marking, and the lower tang is marked with the serial number at the end and "-PAT.OCT.14.1884./JAN.20.1885.-" directly behind the trigger. The barrel has the rare special order push button half magazine. The barrel is blue, receiver, hammer, forend cap, and lever casehardened, and the extractor and loading gate have a fire-blue finish. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a special order solid rubber recoil pad.

Excellent plus to near mint. The barrel retains 98% original blue finish showing only slight high edge wear and minor collector type handling marks. The metal surfaces are smooth and edges are sharp. The receiver retains over 90% of the original brilliant casehardened finish with thinning on the under side of the receiver and a few mild surface scratches on the left. The hammer, lever, and endcap all exhibit equally brilliant case colors. The extractor and loading gate retain 98% plus of the stunning fire-blue finish. The wood is near mint with all of the original varnish remaining showing only a few light handling marks overall. This is an exceptional special order Model 1886 in near pristine condition and would be difficult to improve on.
