Description:

Early production Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army revolver manufactured circa 1875. The revolver has a 4 /3/4-inch barrel. The barrel appears to have been period retailer shortened in a similar manner as the Wells Fargo & Co., S&W Schofield revolvers with shortened barrels. The revolver has a high polish blue finish on the barrel, ejector housing, frame and cylinder. The hammer and loading gate are casehardened. The two-piece walnut grips have and oil finish. The butt is fitted with the lanyard ring which was standard on early production revolvers like this example. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped "REMINGTON & SONS. ILLION. N.Y.U.S.A." in a single line reading toward the muzzle. The serial number, "218" is stamped on the left side of the butt underneath the grips. "218" is written in pencil on the inside of both grips.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 85% plus of the original high polish blue finish. The blue on the sides of the frame, recoil shield and top strap is thin. The hammer and loading gate have nearly all of the casehardened finish. The barrel markings are crisp. The grips are excellent with light handling wear. This is an attractive and unique example of a scarce blue finish Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army revolver with period retailer shortened barrel.
