Description:

This is a fine example of a Pennsylvania made flintlock pistol in the "Kentucky" style. The pistol was manufactured without sights. "Crown/P" and "Crown/ V" proofs are stamped on the upper left side of the barrel at the breech and "KETLAND/& CO" is stamped on the lock plate ahead of the hammer. Mounted with a smooth full stock fitted with brass furniture including the side plate, ramrod pipe and buttcap. With the pistol is a curly grain walnut ramrod.

Rating Definition:

Fine. A mixed brown and gray patina is present on the steel, showing mild handling marks and scattered pitting, strongest on the lock plate. The stock is good, with a period mended chip on the upper right side of the tang, a crack on the left, and some scattered scratches. Untouched original brass mountings are all fine with scattered nicks and dings. Mechanically functions fine.
