Description:

According to the consignor-supplied translation of the included certificate from the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords, this blade was inspected on 16 September 1979, which acknowledged this as a historically valuable sword, and attributes the unsigned blade to a smith named Gammaku, active circa 1650. Measuring 24 1/2 inches overall, with a 17 inch blade, showing a wavy hamon and a gold washed habaki. Four lobed iron tsuba, with raised water plant themed designs and three seppa, 2 brass and one gilt. Brass fuchi and kashira, with gilt accented floral patterns, green cord wrap and gold accented floral mekugi. With a black lacquered saya and blue cord sageo.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The blade shows a few tiny chips and dings, with a small number of tiny dark spots, attractive metal grain and a strong hamon. A small amount of play is detectable in the hilt, with mild wear on the components. A few light chips and scuffs are present on the scabbard.
