Description:

Introduced in 1819, the Hall Rifle gave the soldier the accuracy benefits of a rifled bore, without the drop in firing speed of pre-Minie ball muzzle loading rifles; in a 10-minute U.S. Army firing trial, a 38-man unit equipped with Hall Rifles was able to deliver over twice as many successful rounds on a 100 yard target than 38 men with muzzle loading rifles. Fixed sights, properly offset to the left, with "J.H. HALL/H. FERRY/US/1837" on the breech, "trigger" pattern breech catch and a pistol grip trigger guard. Smooth straight grip stock with button head ramrod, sling swivels and a smooth flat buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 80% of the original brown finish, with some areas of thinning, bright gray patina along the high edges and mild handling marks. The casehardening has aged to a deep brown and silver, with vivid color present around the hammer. Stock is also very fine, with mild dents and dings overall, and a thin semi-circular crack visible on top of the wrist. Mechanically excellent.
