Description:

This is an example of a Remington-Lee Model 1899 Sporting Rifle chambered in the extremely rare 7.65 mm Mauser cartridge. 1,446 sporting rifles were manufactured from 1899 to 1909 in a variety of calibers including the 7.75 mm, however according to the book "The Remington-Lee Rifle" by Eugene Myszkowski (page 65) during his studies while writing the book was unable to locate one in 7.65 mm. The left receiver wall has the patent dates (1884-1887) marking and the top of the wall has the one line address followed by the serial number. Equipped with a blade front sight and adjustable rear sporting sight. Mounted on a round knob half pistol grip stock with three point checkering on the grip area, grasping grooves on the forearm crescent buttplate and sling swivel eyes.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel has a smooth plum patina. The receiver retains 75% original blue finish with areas fading the a smooth plum. The magazine and trigger guard are a mix of smooth gray patina and original blue finish. The buttplate has a smooth silver gray patina. The stock is good with an old repair at the wrist, a 4 3/4 inch minor crack on the left rear of the buttstock and coat of varnish. Overall there are a few minor dents and the checkering is crisp. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. A nice and possibly one of a kind Remington-Lee Sporting rifle in 7.65 mm Mauser.
