Manufactured from 1866 to 1871 and was developed during the Civil War with many being exported for foreign military use. Folding ladder rear sight graduated to 1,300 yards with the base graduated from 1-4. The top of the receiver and barrel at the breech are marked with a Prussian (German) "Crown/V" proof signifying the rifle was captured by the Germans from the French during the Prussian-Franco War in 1871. Below the "crown/V" on the receiver is also an "S", significance unknown. The left side of the frame is marked with the patent and address marking. Smooth straight grip stock with two barrel bands (one is marked "U"), sling swivels and a faint "WC" cartouche on the left side of the wrist.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel retains 90% original blue finish thinning to a brown. The remaining metal surfaces retain 80% original case colors showing some minor spotting (mostly on the buttplate). The blade front sight is a replacement. The wood is very fine with some filled holes behind the receiver and some scattered minor handling marks.
