Manufactured from "800" purity silver, the cup, saucer and dessert plate in this grouping hall have a well executed laurel wreath border around the edges, and the post-1886 hallmarks of "crescent moon", "crown", "800" and a "M" with a diamond set on the top on the cup and saucer and "moon", "crown", "800" and "EM" on the plate, with the cup and plate also bearing an altered family crest of the Von Richthofen family; a bird wing and a stork on the left side and a seated man with a scepter on the right, topped with the upper section of the Pour le Merite (aka the Blue Max, top order of merit in Imperial Germany) and a 7-tined coronet (also known as a Freihernkrone) above all. One generation of the Von Richthofen family after 1886 produced two men with the title of Freiherr who earned the Pour le Merite; Manfred, also known as the Red Baron, Top Ace of World War I at 80 confirmed kills, and his younger brother Lothar, a noteworthy ace in his own right at 40 confirmed kills. Both brothers started out in the Cavalry, and transferred to aviation when it became clear that the realities of trench warfare meant that horsemen would be used as errand runners or cannon fodder, and earned a full spectrum of German valor awards. Notes from the consignor state that these three items were presented by the Krupp Family to "Von Richthofen", but does not specify which one. 1) Silver cup, 3 1/2 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches tall, with a small handle. 2) Saucer, 5 1/2 inches wide and 5/8 inch tall. 3) Dessert plate, 7 inches wide and 1/2 inch tall.
