This is a no series type 44 carbine as manufactured in the Kokura Arsenal. This carbine was actually a mid-produced version with the highest recorded serial number being in the 69,000 range. The top of the receiver has the Royal Chrysanthemum (which is intact) over the Kana markings for type 44. The left side of the receiver has the serial number "27661" next to the Kokura Arsenal mark and a sub inspector mark after that. It has the early short staff rear sight similar to the type 38 carbines with the open "V" rear and inverted "V" front with guards. It is equipped with the type three folding bayonet assembly, flat buttplate with trap door and does not include the cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 98% of an arsenal refurbished blue finish overall with minor pitting on top of the breech end of the barrel, and upper area of the receiver, with a slight purplish tint to the bolt. The stock and hand guard are both excellent with minor handling marks and light pressure dents on the lower buttstock area. The bolt was arsenal renumbered at the time it was refurbished.
