Description:

Unfinished shoulder stock, 15 inches long with a curved naked butt and a straight wrist, slotted for a mounting iron (not included). Included with the stock are four scale blueprints depicting the stock and mounting hardware, with one of the hardware renderings identifying the stock as being for a Colt 1911 pistol, with Colt address in the lower right corner. In the years after WWII many retiring senior Colt employees were allowed to take with them a souvenir of their years with the company. The Model Room seems to have been the place many of them went to find and make their choice. It is possible that this prototype stock and accompanying blueprints were just such a souvenir for a loyal Colt retiree. Similar attaching mainspring housings and a similar contour stock are shown on pages 253 and 280 of Donald B. Bady's landmark book COLT AUTOMATIC PISTOLS enlarged and revised, Borden Publishing Co. 1973.

Rating Definition:

1) Excellent, with a few light handling marks overall. The drawings are in good condition, with mild foxing. The 2 drawings covering the stock have had a section removed from the lower right quadrant which may have been an address.
